Honor of Kings Developers Address Ongoing Matchmaking System Issues

Honor of Kings has officially launched worldwide on Android and iOS. The developers are dedicated to addressing the problems frequently encountered by players. To facilitate this, they release episodes of "Listen Up, Dev!" where they address common in-game issues. In the second episode, they focused on the ongoing concerns with the current matchmaking system in Honor of Kings.

Honor of Kings Addresses Unequal Matchmaking, Vows to Ensure Fair Play for All

Honor of Kings is implementing new mechanisms to address issues of unequal matchmaking and smurfing. Recognizing that these problems affect many games, the developers of this MOBA are making a concerted effort to tackle them. A common complaint is that players in lower tiers frequently encounter opponents who seem disproportionately powerful for their rank.

This issue is prevalent in many games, as some players create secondary accounts to dominate lower-tier lobbies. The developers of Honor of Kings acknowledge that smurfing is common in all competitive games, but they are taking it seriously and will monitor these accounts. One method they are using is to check if multiple accounts are being accessed from the same device. Additionally, they will monitor players' skill levels to ensure they align with their current tier.

When the game detects "smurfing," it will reassign the player to a different matchmaking pool with opponents of similar or higher skill levels. While Honor of Kings acknowledges that this issue won't be completely eradicated, they are committed to minimizing its negative impact.

This approach, however, raises another concern: some players are naturally more skilled than others. To address this, the game plans to introduce features that allow these players to advance to higher tiers more quickly, ensuring fairer matches for everyone.

Premade Teams with Friends to Be Evaluated by Average Team Skill Level

The developers have addressed other concerns as well. For instance, if a player in the Diamond tier teams up with a friend in the Gold tier, the matchmaking system will ensure that both players can enjoy matches suited to their skill levels.

Honor of Kings is taking steps to address this issue by ensuring that teams with players of different tiers are matched based on their overall skill level. The system will also prioritize matching players whose tiers are close to each other, providing a more balanced and enjoyable experience for everyone.

For duo matchmaking, the system will use the average tier of both players. In trio mode, the game ranks players from highest to lowest and calculates the average using weights of 55%, 30%, and 15% respectively. Full-party matchmaking prioritizes the highest-tier player, accounting for 70% of the team’s skill level.

The game also addresses solo players being matched with duos or trios. Developers stated that solo players will only be matched with duos or trios if matchmaking takes too long. Additionally, full-party teams are almost always matched against other full-party teams, ensuring solo players are not matched against a full party.

Honor of Kings Commits to Ongoing Issue Resolution and Player Support

The game is actively addressing player feedback, aiming to enhance its appeal to MOBA players while ensuring they receive top-notch experience and support simultaneously.

Following the detailed feedback on Honor of Kings' matchmaking system in the second episode of Listen Up, Devs!, the upcoming third episode will concentrate on cheat prevention. As the game persists in these efforts, players can expect a continued commitment to respecting their investment of time in the title.
